Massage Therapy & Exercise Coaching

Massage therapy, as you may know, helps reduce pain and stiffness. It can help decrease headaches, ease back pain, speed healing of damaged tissues and so much more. Over the past 15 years I have noticed something missing in treatments that is imperative to getting people pain-free. Exercise. As a massage therapist I have always included some form of exercise routine with every treatment, not only to prevent pain from returning but also to keep the benefits of the massage stable until the next massage. This is such an important step to truly getting better. Strengthening exercises help to fill in the gap between feeling better for a moment and actually being better long term.

Unfortunately, a lot of the time, it's the thing that people can't seem to find the time to do. I get it. Life is busy. We forget. We are distracted by our busy lives. But without changing the patterns that we create over time, we may never get where we want to be. It's the main reason why most people's pain returns sooner than later and how people get stuck on massage loops.  A massage loop is when you come in for a massage, and afterwards, everything feels so great. You feel loose and pain-free. A few days, weeks or even months later, you feel the pain creeping back in and you think, I better get in to see my massage therapist so I can get rid of this pain again. This pattern continues over and over again throughout the years, all the while you’re never really getting better. In that crucial moment, after the massage has done its magic, we want to be sure to show the body how to take this new pain-free you and tell it what we want it to do next – be strong and ready for anything. It’s at this point we create new functional habits that reprogram your body how to do things in a stable, stronger and more balanced way. We do this in the form of exercise. After teaching your body how to create these new habits, and building that foundational strength, you’re on track to doing the things you love pain-free!  Then, you can book regular massages and actually enjoy your massage sessions without pain. Now that’s maintenance massage!

 

From personal experience, I know how hard it is to commit to doing a workout at home, no matter how small. I understand that sometimes it’s difficult to actually remember to do the exercises you've been given when you actually have time to do them. I am also very familiar with finally remembering to do your exercises, but then completely forgetting how to do them correctly. Through no fault of our own, we get side-tracked by life and we just can never seem to get where we want to be.

 

I have been a certified life and exercise coach for 2 years and I have also been certified in personal training for 14 years. I have also been a regular patient of physiotherapy since 2007 where I have learned first hand how to incorporate this type of training and strengthening for myself. I have experienced many injuries over the years from sports to slip and falls and even car accidents. The exercise training I have received over this time has been transformational with regards to my health and now, I want to use this knowledge and experience to help you reach your physical health goals.

 

I now offer massage and exercise coaching programs for those of you with a desire to achieve the next level of wellness. Through these programs I can take you out of the massage loop and get you on track to doing what you love to do, whether it's playing sports, staying pain-free at work or being strong enough to start more enjoyable extracurricular activities that are important to you. The exercise program is designed specifically for you to help you achieve your goals.

 

The programs may include any of the following options: 

  • The massage sessions correct problem areas and create a healthy foundation in your soft tissue to begin to build strength and endurance when it comes time to exercise.

  • The exercise program will teach you how to do each exercise properly and in correct form. Each exercise is designed for you as an individual and will be helpful to address your individual needs.

  • The exercise coaching will ensure that each repetition is performed in the right position and pain free to create a new, healthy functional pattern that you can implement into your sport or daily life.

  • Daily email reminders will remind you to do your exercises and help to keep you on track and accountable by asking you to submit your completed exercise routine to me via the TrueCoach app.

  • The TrueCoach app will allow me to send you emails with video or still images of you completing the exercises you were given during the initial exercise coaching session. This will give you a visual reminder on form and execution of each exercise. It will also ask you to send confirmation when you finish your exercise routine so I know you’ve completed the routine for that day. You are also able to contact me directly through the app so I can answer any questions or address any concerns you might have while doing your routine.

  • Typically, I give exercises that include exercise bands and an exercise ball. These are a great way to teach your body balance and stability while building strength.

  • Personal on-site training at your gym can help teach you how to use the gym equipment in a way that’s beneficial for you. I can coach you through your exercise program with the equipment available at your gym.

  • Creating a sacred space for exercise at your home can create healthy habits and motivate you to do your exercises. I can coach you through your exercise routine in the comfort of your home. We can create a space that’s inviting and devoted just for exercise and make sure that you have all the equipment you need to do your routine safely and effectively.

  • Sometimes it’s beneficial to incorporate a bit of stretching through your day. I can offer a stretching routine you can fit into your day that will support you in reaching your goals.

  • Thai yoga massage is an awesome way to get those stiff muscles and joints moving. Thai massage can help with body awareness and flexibility; two things that will help expedite your recovery and healing.

  • Weekly Check Ins will be available to you throughout the program to help you if you've forgotten how to do something or have a question. I am committed to helping you reach your health goals and I will be there to encourage and support you along the way!

Programs are designed and priced on an individual basis. Please book an initial appointment to discuss a program that works best for you.

Cancellation Policy


We understand that unanticipated events happen occasionally in everyone’s life. In our desire to be effective and fair to all clients, the following policies are honored:
24-hour advance notice is required when cancelling an appointment. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment. For the first late cancellation where less than 24 hours’ notice is given, you will be not be charged. A second offense will be charged 50% of your full appointment fee. This amount must be paid prior to your next scheduled appointment.  If you cancel ‘last minute’ a third time or more, you will be charged in full for your appointment. Only 1 cancellation allowed in coaching programs. See contract for more details.

 

No-shows


No Call within 24 hours or "no show" will be charged in full for the “missed” appointment.
 

Late Arrivals


If you arrive late, your session may be shortened in order to accommodate others whose appointments follow yours. Depending upon how late you arrive, your therapist will then determine if there is enough time remaining to start a treatment. Regardless of the length of the treatment actually given, you will be responsible for the “full” session. Out of respect and consideration to your therapist and other customers, please plan accordingly and be on time.
